Being an international student in a foreign country can be challenging, especially during the travel preparations and when a student first arrives in their new country.

At Kinneret Academic College, we created the Buddy System so international students will have a network made up of individuals (local Israeli Students) who already have experience in the country who can show them around and teach them about the local culture.

The buddy system matches incoming M.A and M.Sc. international students with local Israeli students.

What is the buddy system?

The Student Buddy System help new international students adjust to college life by being a friendly first point of contact.

How does the buddy system work?

A buddy system is an onboarding and knowledge sharing method used to orient new international students arriving on campus. It involves assigning him or her to a student buddy.

What are the main goals for a buddy system?

To socially integrate international and local students through Informal meetings\ events.

To develop local students’ global mindset and to promote intercultural exchanges.

What’s in it for the Buddy?

The main reward is the contact itself with new international students. Being a Buddy is a great way to stay in touch with people from all over the world and to practice a foreign language. To expand future networking circles and create meaningful friendships.

What’s in it for the international student?

International students will benefit from the assistance as they get settled into their new study environment. The first few weeks can be difficult for any international student, when facing a different/ new country, language, new habits. This is where the Buddy System comes in. Creating a welcoming familiar setting.

How does the system work?

A local student from Kinneret will be assigned an international student.

Even before the international student arrives in Israel, the local student will contact the international student and assist and help answer any questions they may have pre-arrival.

The type of assistance may vary – from giving them a tour of campus to taking them to the international office. Introducing the international student to the best places to eat in the area or best sightseeing areas.

In addition, the local student be available to answer any questions or concerns.

What type of events will be held?

Social events, trips to get to know the country, Campus tour, welcome potluck dinner/ lunch and more.

Who should apply?

Students who study in the M.A in Tourism and Hotel Management program

Students who study in the M.Sc. in Water Industry Engineering program.
