Kinneret Institute for Galilean Archaeology

The Institute, headed by Dr. Mordechai Aviam, was established in 2007 to enhance research of the classical period. Their activities include surveys, studies, excavations and publications. This past summer the Institute joined a Japanese team in the excavation of the upper level of a first century Jewish village. This was in addition to the ongoing work of uncovering Jewish Yodefat in the lower Galilee (where Josephus was captured by the Romans), the ancient synagogues at Bar-Am and the Hasmonean fortress at Keren Naftali
