“Agricultural whiteout borders” The Israeli learning by doing program for advanced agriculture

"Agriculture Training" is a unique "Learning by doing" program operated by “kinneret academic college” in collaboration whit academic institutes around the world and gained approval and support governmental authorities in Israel.
The main goals of the program are:

  • Integrate the trainees into a unique vocational program of instruction and practical mentoring, based on the importing of knowledge and expertise, by combining studies and hands-on work.
  • Provide the trainees with advanced agricultural knowledge and practical training, in order to prepare them for the agricultural, technological and financial challenges in his origin country.

The program has gained support, approval and encouragement from the ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the ministry for Foreign and the ministry for internal Affairs which grant the permits in Israel.
The study program is a ten to eleven month long in Israel, constitutes a full agricultural season.
The trainees work five days a week performing agricultural labor on the farms, every week lectures from kinneret college are participate a class in the farms and approximately one day a week for academic learning in classes. The program includes 220 hours that includes academic learning, educational vocational tours, visiting advance companies and agricultural enterprises all over Israel and visits to tourist attractions.
The program is accompanied by an academic director, teachers and lecturers, staff members and agronomists which mentoring the students also in the farms

Prof. Shimon Gepstein – President of Kinneret College –Prof. Gepstein’s research papers address the understanding of ageing processes of plants. This research is applied in agricultural biotechnology. Prominent developments generated by this research relate to the development of technologies that are based on genetic engineering for delaying ageing in plants, extending the shelf life of vegetables and fruit, as well as water-efficient plants which can grow in arid regions.

The academic program includes assignments of research papers, in addition to the lectures. The culmination of the project is the computerized presentation of the papers to the entire class and agriculture experts.
When finishing the program, the trainees receive a certificate of completion.

Selection process

In the country of origin:
Israeli Embassy links the college to academic institute in the origin country:

  • Limiting age between 22 to 30
  • We will ask for 3 nominees to interview for each available place in the program.

Each candidate is interviewed by representatives of the college.
First interview is filling out forms
The second interview is conducted by the program director.
After the interviews sued cooperative thought the final choice.
Each candidate selected has to provide before arriving in Israel:
Valid passport
Certificate of good conduct from the police
Medical report
2 passport photos
Signing a contract of college rules and regulation.
1000$ deposit that will be returned at the end of the course.
In the end of Selection process the program director have an orientation day for all nominees whit some content provided by the college.

In Israel:

  • Meeting the trainees at the airport and bringing them to the farms in Israel.
  • Medical insurance for the students immediately upon their arrival in Israel.
  • Providing the trainees accommodations and necessary equipment during their stay in Israel.
  • Each student get a new lap top computer (will be paid to college in 9 installments)
  • 5 days of practicum training, 1 day of studies in the college campus.
  • In addition during the week a lesson is takes place in the students farms by college mentors
  • One’s a month conducted a study tour
  • At the practicum paying the trainees by the hour, according to the minimum wage in Israel, deduction for tuition, airfare et cetera. (student can save between 4,000$ to 5000$ during the program)
  • Completion of the full scholastic program.
  • Reservation of flights and bringing the students in a group back to their counters

The academic program

The Academic program is adapted to the level of the trainees and to the needs in their origin countries,
We know to adjust the trainee’s needs in front of our syllabus that includes:

  • Seed and plant propagation techniques;
  • Soil fertility and plant nutrition;
  • Plant health and protection;
  • Post-harvest processing and storage;
  • Feed and fodder production, storage and conservation;
  • Farm animal nutrition including raw material safety and quality;
  • Farm animal health, care and welfare (dairy, poultry farm, pig and fish growing)
  • Farm management and record keeping;
  • Water conservation and manure management; and
  • Water and environmental sanitation for farming communities.
